Congratulations to the wonderful Pam Hall! ‘Towards an Encyclopedia of Local Knowledge’ has been awarded the 2018 Heritage and History Book Award!
The Heritage and History Book Award was established in 2004 to recognize authors publishing written works that exemplify excellence in the interpretation of the heritage and history of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Commentary from the award committee reads: “Hall records local knowledge collected from Bonne Bay and the Great Northern Peninsula and from Fogo Island and Change Islands in a highly original visual and artistic format. She catalogues local knowledge of survival - of the home and the sea and the woods. Knitting, rughooking, boatbuilding, hunting, trapping, fishing, foraging, preserving, navigating, mapping and more are all aspects of local knowledge that Hall sources and documents from local people. The knowledge is shared through beautiful illustrations and diagrams accompanied by appropriate text"
