The Research Funding Tracker (RFT) is the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) database for HSS researchers looking for information on upcoming research funding grants, awards, and (limited) fellowships. The RFT also contains information on each opportunity's main source of funds (also referred to as the "agency") and provides information on Memorial's internal deadlines and submission procedures for each opportunity.
Features include:
General
What is a funding opportunity?
A funding opportunity can be a distinction, prize, award, grant, scholarship, fellowship or internship. HSS's RFT focuses on opportunities for faculty, adjunct faculty, or postdoctoral fellows. Opportunities for graduate students can be found in Memorial's School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Awards and Scholarships Database. A more comprehensive database of faculty awards is maintained by the Strategic Institutional Research Initiatives (SIRI) office through the Research Awards and Honours Deadlines database.
What is a funding source?
A funding source is an agency, foundation, business, or group that provides funding for research. Every funding opportunity is connected to an agency.
If there is missing information and/or an error, who do I contact?
If you find any missing information or an error in the RFT, please email hssresearchadmin@mun.ca to have it corrected.

How can I use the search function to find funding opportunities?
The search function can be used to find funding opportunities by searching by year, by all years, or by funding type, eg. Memorial's internal opportunities or opportunities whose funding source is external to Memorial either nationally or internationally.
Browse
What is browse?
Browse allows you to view a list of funding opportunities and sources.
How are the funding opportunities organized?
Using the browse function funding opportunities are organized by month and year. Other options include “any time” which will display opportunities with no set deadline, and “all” which will show all the opportunities for that calendar year.
How are agencies organized?
Agencies/funding sources are organized alphabetically in one list.
When I use browse function I am seeing internal deadlines for external opportunities?
Many funding opportunities will require signature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and/or Memorial University’s Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) prior to being submitted to the agency. When browsing through the funding opportunities it will display the most relevant deadline for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. For more information on HSS and Memorial's submission procedures, please visit HSS's Research Support Services webpages.
