The Research Council works to promote research and innovation of high quality and relevance. We help to generate knowledge in priority areas to enable Norway to deal with key challenges to society and the business sector.
We administer the country’s largest competitive arena for allocation of public R&D funding on behalf of the Norwegian Government, and invest approximately NOK 10 billion in research and innovation projects each year. This funding comes from 18 different government ministries.
Our task is to establish sound funding distribution mechanisms that promote development in research environments, trade and industry and the public sector, and ensure that this funding is allocated to the best applicants.
