Mandate

JPI Oceans is an institutionalised, transgovernmental platform with the capacity to strategically prioritise, structure, and fund transnational research and innovation for sustainably healthy and productive seas and oceans. We serve the interests of our member countries and their ocean-related political priorities, whilst maintaining agile governance and streamlined operations that enable a dynamic agenda of impactful activities. Our newly published Strategy Framework 2026-30 sets out the strategic cornerstones and thematic scope for the next five years, reaffirming our unique positioning and purpose.

To be the leading transnational platform for ocean research programming, performance, and policy.

Our Mission

To facilitate the efficient provision of expert knowledge and sustainable solutions to enable informed policy delivery and economic development.

Who we are

JPI Oceans consists of 13 member countries, with a further countries currently pending status decision.
