Four Memorial internal grants have new deadlines
Four internal grants have new deadlines: Publications Subvention Program; SSHRC Exchange and Explore; Artistic/Creative Research Grants Program; and Seed, Bridge and Multidisciplinary Fund. HSS's Research Funding Tracker has been updated to reflect the new deadlines, with updated,HSS internal deadlines added.
*Please note that if the deadline date falls on a weekend or in case of university closure, applications will be due on the first work day following the deadline.

Dear colleagues,
With research deeply embedded across our university, and projects and initiatives underway on each of our campuses, the Office of the Vice-President (Research) offers support to Memorial’s diverse research activities as our teams actively respond to the needs of the province, country and world.
As many of you know, a suite of internal funding programs provides critical and foundational support to researchers. Oftentimes, this support helps ensure research projects begin and/or continue; lays the groundwork for new research projects and/or initiatives; leverages future external grants; provides hand-on training for students and/or postdoctoral researchers; provides travel and publication supports; and advances leading-edge research ideas.
Beginning fall 2025, the deadlines for some of Memorial’s internal grant competition cycles will shift. The reasons for the revisions include ensuring researchers have sufficient time to apply for these opportunities, particularly in relation to the schedules of external funding cycles; ensuring there is a manageable flow of internal grant volumes for researchers and research administrative staff; and ensuring committee members have adequate time to review applications in relation to other university events such as Convocation.
The below table notes the internal funding opportunities date changes.

Fall 2025 competition: Previous deadline: Nov. 15; New/Revised RIS deadline: Sept. 15; New/Revised HSS deadline Sept. 8

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Exchange & Explore Grants
Fall 2025 competition: Previous deadline: Sept. 15; New/Revised RIS deadline: Oct. 10; New/Revised HSS deadline Oct. 2; New/Revised (optional) Advanced Draft Feedback deadline: Aug. 18
Winter 2026 competition: Previous deadline: Feb. 10; New/Revised RIS deadline: Feb. 15; New/Revised HSS deadline: Feb. 3; New/Revised (optional) Advanced Draft Feedback deadline: Jan. 6
Artistic/Creative Research Grants Program
Winter 2026 competition: Previous deadline: Feb. 28; New/Revised RIS deadline: Feb. 2; New/Revised HSS deadline: Jan 26; New/Revised (optional) Advanced Draft Feedback deadline: Jan 6.
Seed, Bridge and Multidisciplinary Fund
Fall 2025 competition: No longer running a fall competition - one spring competition a year only.
Spring 2026 competition: Previous deadline: May 15; New/Revised RIS deadline: May 1; New/Revised HSS deadline: April 23; New/Revised (optional) Advanced Draft Feedback deadline: March 23
Additionally, SSHRC Explore support is increasing from $7,000 to $10,000 and the SSHRC Explore award timeline will be extended from 18 months to 24 months to allow principal investigators two summer seasons to utilize funds.
There are no changes to the following internal funding opportunities: Salary-Based Research Grants Program (due to HSS Sept. 24 and Jan. 27) and Polar Knowledge Canada’s Northern Scientific Training Program (HSS exact deadline TBD, but usually mid-Oct.).
