Proposals are being accepted for a faculty award that provides critical financial support to early-career researchers. The Terra Nova Innovator Award, which is valued at up to $50,000, recognizes emerging faculty members whose research is particularly innovative and whose specific proposal has real potential to make a significant impact on society. The award is supported through funding from Suncor on behalf of partners in the Terra Nova oil field. Applications must be received on Monday, June 3, by 5 p.m. Researchers must submit proposals electronically to researchawards@mun.ca. Please contact your unit’s grants facilitator (or, if the unit has no grants facilitator, the person with signing authority for your unit) to confirm if there are earlier, internal deadlines. Internal deadlines must be factored into the timing of the development and submission of applications. More information, including terms of reference and application process, is available online.
(Optional) Advanced Draft Feedback: For this competition, Memorial applicants may request detailed feedback on full draft applications or on application components. Normally, HSS Research Support Services would require draft applications to be submitted a minimum of 2 months ahead of the external deadline (see below for all deadlines). Please note that Advanced Draft Feedback deadlines may vary depending on the workflow of the HSS Research Support Services office. If you wish to request this service, please contact Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca or 864-8603) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca or 864-8050) as soon as possible.
Faculty of HSS Submission Procedures (mandatory): This opportunity is NOT submitted through Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). E-mail the completed application (with Department Head signature) and all other required documentation an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca), by noon on the Internal (HSS) deadline listed below. The application will then be reviewed, signed by the HSS Dean's Office, and returned to you to submit directly to the relevant internal office.
If you plan to apply to this competition or other research funding opportunities (as either PI or CI), e-mail an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca or 864-8603) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca or 864-8050), to notify the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of your intent to apply. E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
