Memorial University’s Catalyst Conference Fund for Public Engagement is designed to support academic conferences that align with the goals and objectives of Memorial’s Public Engagement Framework by encouraging opportunities for public participation in conference activities.
The fund objectives are to:
Integrate opportunities for public engagement in academic conferences hosted by Memorial.
Further the goals and objectives of Memorial’s Public Engagement Framework.
Further the mission of Memorial University and help it meet its special obligation to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Amount
The fund offers up to $5,000 in support of conferences that demonstrate public involvement and engagement. A total amount of $25,000 is available in the fund for the 2020-21 fiscal year.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received in small batches and will continue until the fund is exhausted.
Eligibility
The Catalyst Conference Fund is open to Memorial applicants to support academic conferences that integrate public engagement activities in the overall conference program and/or conference planning. This includes online conferences and blended options (see below under Conference Types). Proposals may be initiated by a full-time faculty, staff member or PhD student, based at Memorial University and may be from any discipline and from any geographic area of the province. The fund supports any cost associated with conference activity.

This opportunity is NOT submitted through Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP) but uses the Public Engagement and Harris Centre Application Hub. Please add "Heather C. O'Brien, HSS Grants Facilitator" or "Matthew Milner, HSS Grants Facilitator" as a "member" on your application; you may choose to add this member with "Read- only" access. Please note that all cash and in-kind contributions must be supported with documentation. As well, approvals must be obtained from Memorial co-investigator departments and/or faculties.
Once you have completed all of the sections of the application, obtained all necessary back-up documents, and obtained departmental signature on the signatory page, e-mailed the full application package to the Grants Facilitator handling your file by the HSS internal deadline listed below. The GFO will perform the HSS administrative review and request Dean's Office signature for the Signature Form. The application then uploads the form to the funder's portal and submits.

E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
