The France-Canada Research Fund (FCRF) is launching a new funding program for 2025, entitled FCRF+, to support existing research partnerships between France and Canada. The objective of the FFCR+ competition is to support France-Canada teams that have been successful in obtaining a previous FCRF grant and wish to continue their collaboration by setting up ambitious research projects, with a view to submitting joint applications to external calls for proposals (non-exhaustive list: Horizon Europe, the French Agence nationale de la recherche (National Research Agency), Canada’s three federal research funding agencies, NFRF – Exploration and Transformation streams). The FCRF+ competition is open to all fields of research. Funding of up to $5,000 CAD will be awarded to around fifteen projects in 2025 to cover mobility costs according to the needs expressed in the application. This grant will facilitate meetings between the two partners, which may include travel by one partner to the other partner’s location or any other activity that helps develop the future joint project. Funding is intended for principal investigators (PIs), not students. Funds will be managed by the Canadian university to which the project is affiliated and will be available for one year. Please note that indirect costs are not eligible to be covered by these funds.
The FCRF+ criteria are :
Both PIs must be former winners (selected anytime from 2001 to 2023) of the FCRF “New research collaboration program” competition. The application must be submitted by the FCRF winning duo.
The Canadian researcher must be affiliated with a member of one of the 23 FCRF consortium member universities listed below.
The French researcher must be affiliated with a research institution under the supervision of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
The 2 PIs must be in permanent or tenure-track positions.
PIs must have identified an external call for proposals.

In addition to the external funding agency’s submission procedures, this opportunity must also be submitted for Departmental, HSS Faculty, and Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) institutional reviews and approvals via Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). In order to facilitate the HSS Faculty’s administrative review, please ensure "Heather C. O'Brien (Grants Facilitator)" and “Matthew Milner (Grants Facilitator)” are added as "Team Members" on your RP file.
In accordance with University-wide approval protocols, all tabs of the RP file must be completed, the completed application must be uploaded to the “Attachments” tab, all supporting documentation including support for cash and in-kind commitments and/or letters of support must also be uploaded, and “Submit” must be pressed prior to the HSS internal deadline listed below. HSS cannot guarantee completion of an administrative review for application files that are incomplete and/or are submitted after the HSS deadline. For more detailed submission instructions and information, please consult the HSS Research Support Services website.
If you plan to apply to this competition or other research funding opportunities (as either PI or CI), e-mail an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca or 864-8603) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca or 864-8050), to notify the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of your intent to apply. E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
