Description

Environmental Damages Fund (EDF) funds come from fines, penalties, court orders, and voluntary payments following environmental infractions. For this call for applications, funding is available in the following provinces and territories: Quebec, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. Applicants must identify which available funding they are applying for in their application. Please also include the location (province/territory), funds available, Fund Use Requirement, and the funding deadline.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Application deadline: April 16, 2025, 15:00:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Location: Newfoundland and Labrador Funds available: $1,425,000 Fund use requirement: For projects related to protection, conservation, research, or restoration of the environment in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador; priority will be given to projects related to migratory birds and their habitats, with emphasis on marine and coastal bird species. Applicants must request a minimum of $100,000 from ECCC in the application’s budget in order to be eligible.

Application deadline: April 16, 2025, 15:00:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Location: Newfoundland and Labrador Funds available: $495,000 Fund use requirement: For projects related to promoting the proper management and control of fisheries or fish habitat or the conservation and protection of fish or fish habitat in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador; priority may be given to projects benefitting the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. Applicants must request a minimum of $100,000 from ECCC in the application’s budget in order to be eligible.

Application deadline: April 16, 2025, 15:00:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) Location: Newfoundland and Labrador Funds available: $710,000 Fund use requirement: For projects related to protection, conservation, research, or restoration of the environment in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Applicants must request a minimum of $100,000 from ECCC in the application’s budget in order to be eligible.


Submission Procedures

In addition to the external funding agency’s submission procedures, this opportunity must also be submitted for Departmental, HSS Faculty, and Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) institutional reviews and approvals via Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). In order to facilitate the HSS Faculty’s administrative review, please ensure "Heather C. O'Brien (Grants Facilitator)" and “Matthew Milner (Grants Facilitator)” are added as "Team Members" on your RP file. 

In accordance with University-wide approval protocols, all tabs of the RP file must be completed, the completed application must be uploaded to the “Attachments” tab, all supporting documentation including support for cash and in-kind commitments and/or letters of support must also be uploaded, and “Submit” must be pressed prior to the HSS internal deadline listed below. HSS cannot guarantee completion of an administrative review for application files that are incomplete and/or are submitted after the HSS deadline.
