The Janeway Research Advisory Committee (JRAC) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Janeway Foundation’s 2025 Research Awards. These awards support research which has the potential to improve children’s health care in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year’s research grants will be awarded in the following three categories.
Independent Investigators (eligible for awards up to $30,000)
Medical residents, masters level graduate students, and undergraduate students (eligible for awards up to $7000)
Doctoral level graduate students (eligible for awards up to $9000)
Please see the committees terms of reference for more information about the awards (see below link).
Applications must include either the independent investigator cover page or the trainee cover page (see below link), depending on the category of award being applied for, and complete contact information for the applicant (phone, mail address, and email address).
Applications from independent investigators must include a project proposal of no more than five pages (excluding references), a one-page budget and justification, and a current CV from the principal applicant. The project proposal should include the following sections: A) background and rationale; B) research objectives; C) experimental design and methods; D) relevance to children’s health in Newfoundland and Labrador; E) implications for future research; and F) project timeline.
Applications from trainees must include a project proposal of no more than five pages (excluding references), a one-page budget and justification, and a current CV from the trainee. The project proposal should include the following sections: A) background and rationale; B) research objectives; C) experimental design and methods; D) relevance to children’s health in Newfoundland and Labrador; E) relevance to the applicant’s training; and F) project timeline.
All grant applications must be submitted via the MUN Researcher Portal for both faculty level and institutional level approval by RIS prior to submission to the Janeway Foundation Grant competition. Each application should be submitted as a single PDF file, with the completed cover page scanned into the application and an institutional approval from RIS. This PDF file should be sent to Dr. Paul Dancey, Chair, Janeway Research Advisory Committee, at JRAC@mun.ca.
Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed for this year’s competition.
This opportunity must be submitted through Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). To do so, you should:
Complete the application form, as downloaded from the below link, and collect all additional documentation, as applicable to your project and as instructed. Attach Indigenous Evidence of Community Engagement (ECE), as applicable.
Begin a new Memorial Researcher Portal (RP) file and add "Heather C. O'Brien (Grants Facilitator)" and “Matthew Milner (Grants Facilitator)” as "Team Members" on the RP file.
Submit the RP file, which routes it for Departmental and HSS Faculty approvals.
Once approved by both department and faculty, the RP file will route to Research, Initiatives and Services (RIS).
In accordance with University-wide approval protocols, all tabs of the RP file must be completed, the completed application must be uploaded to the “Attachments” tab, all supporting documentation including support for cash and in-kind commitments and/or letters of support must also be uploaded, and “Submit” must be pressed prior to the HSS internal deadline listed below. HSS cannot guarantee completion of an administrative review for application files that are incomplete and/or are submitted after the HSS deadline. For more detailed submission instructions and information, please consult the HSS Research Support Services website.
If you plan to apply to this competition or other research funding opportunities (as either PI or CI), e-mail an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca or 864-8603) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca or 864-8050), to notify the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of your intent to apply. E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
