Description

The Atlantic Fisheries Fund is a contribution program funded jointly by the federal, provincial and territorial governments. It will invest over $400 million over 7 years to support Canada’s fish and seafood sector. The fund aims to help Canada’s seafood sector transition to meet growing market demands for products that are:

  • high quality

  • value added

  • sustainably sourced

The federal government will provide 70% of the funding, and 30% will come from participating provinces and territories. The national component of the fund is called the Canadian Fish and Seafood Opportunities Fund, and has a separate application process.

Atlantic component

The Atlantic component focuses on 3 areas, which are:

  1. innovation

    • this will encourage the development of new products and technologies in the harvesting, aquaculture and processing sectors

  2. infrastructure

    • this will encourage the use of new technologies or processes to improve sustainability

  3. science partnerships

    • this will form industry-based collaborations with academia and other research institutions to improve our knowledge and understanding

Funding is available for projects that meet the eligibility and assessment criteria in:

  • Nova Scotia

  • New Brunswick

  • Prince Edward Island

  • Newfoundland and Labrador

Collaboration

To help us identify and promote projects of mutual interest, we will work with provincial and territorial governments to engage:

  • Indigenous groups

  • non-governmental organizations

  • industry and industry associations

  • scientific and academic communities


Submission Procedures

In addition to the external funding agency’s submission procedures, this opportunity must also be submitted for Departmental, HSS Faculty, and Research Initiatives and Services (RIS) institutional reviews and approvals via Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). In order to facilitate the HSS Faculty’s administrative review, please ensure "Heather C. O'Brien (Grants Facilitator)" and “Matthew Milner (Grants Facilitator)” are added as "Team Members" on your RP file. Allow at least 10 business days for these reviews to be completed.

In accordance with University-wide approval protocols, all tabs of the RP file must be completed, the completed application must be uploaded to the “Attachments” tab, all supporting documentation including support for cash and in-kind commitments and/or letters of support must also be uploaded, and “Submit” must be pressed in order for HSS to begin its administrative review and provide approvals. HSS cannot guarantee timely completion of an administrative review for application files that are incomplete. E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
