Description

Note: Eligibility criteria for the Cross-Campus Initiatives Fund are currently being reviewed and the fund is paused. An announcement regarding the call for submissions for that fund will be made at a later date.

The Cross-Campus Initiatives Fund is meant to encourage and build on existing strategic relationships between Memorial's campuses: the St. John's campus, the Marine Institute, Grenfell Campus, Harlow Campus and the Labrador Institute. The fund annually allocates $40,000 as one-time support for new initiatives that are clearly and demonstrably strategic for the units.

Purpose of fund: Memorial is a university of several campuses and other functional venues, such as the Labrador Institute and a number of Separately Incorporated Entities. In the interest of encouraging strategic relationships among these venues, it is desirable to have and sustain a central fund to encourage and support institutional collaborations between the separated units to cover travel in accordance with Memorial’s travel policy.

Size of pool: The purpose of this fund entails that it should be used for special purposes rather than routine business. Only a relatively small number of well‐defined initiatives can normally be anticipated within the course of a year. An annual allocation of $40,000 has therefore been established, subject to review on the basis of experience.

Criteria for allocation: Proposals should satisfy the following conditions:

• The collaboration in question will be a new initiative rather than an ongoing operation.

• The initiative will be clearly and demonstrably strategic for the units.

• There will be identifiable outcomes ultimately described in a report to the Vice‐Presidents’ Council.

Eligibility: Proposals are invited from all members of the Memorial community and all offices of the University.

Application Process: Proposals for one‐time support should be submitted to the Cross Campus Initiatives Fund through the Provost’s Office. The guidelines for the proposal can be found at the following website: http://www.mun.ca/vpacademic/CCIF.php

Adjudication: A committee representing the VP portfolios will consider applications and approve funding within the allocated budget. A call for applications will be issued three times per year (one per semester). An annual report will be provided to Vice‐Presidents’ Council for information.

Submission Procedures

This opportunity is NOT submitted through Memorial's Researcher Portal (RP). E-mail the completed application (with Department Head signature) and all other required documentation an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca), by noon on the Internal (HSS) deadline listed below. The application will then be reviewed, signed by the HSS Dean's Office, and returned to you to submit directly to the relevant internal office.

If you plan to apply to this competition or other research funding opportunities (as either PI or CI), e-mail an HSS Grants Facilitator, Heather C. O’Brien (HSSResearchAdmin@mun.ca or 864-8603) or Matthew Milner (HSSResearchGrants@mun.ca or 864-8050), to notify the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of your intent to apply. E-mailing the intent to apply as early as possible will help to facilitate an efficient review. A Grants Facilitator can answer any questions you may have about internal or external submission procedures and may also be able to help with proposal development.
