Expand the potential of highly skilled international students, broaden your department’s research horizons, and play a key role in promoting Canada as a top destination for the world’s brightest minds through the Globalink Research Internship. The 12-week initiative pairs faculty with undergraduate students from eligible international academic institutions for a full-time internship, allowing professors to help further the intern’s research, and interns to supplement their learning through participation in career-building training courses and conferences.
Why should a professor apply to GRI?
The Globalink Research Internship submission process is fast and simple. Previous participants can log into their account to update their profile (email address, institution, etc.), as well as to access, and submit projects. They can also resubmit past projects that were put forward for matching in previous years.
Participating faculty have the possibility of increasing their research/profile internationally, and to create international networks between their host institutions and international students.
Successful faculty receive elite undergraduates from our partner countries to support their research.
Faculty moving to the matching phase are able to preview top international students from a pool of thousands of applicants.
The GRI cycle is a year-long process with specific milestones. It begins with the Faculty Call from mid-April to mid-June, whereby professors from across the country are invited to submit their research projects to Mitacs.
In order to be eligible for hosting interns as part of the GRI program, professors must:
Have one of the following statuses at an eligible institution: Full professor, Associate professor, Assistant professor, Adjunct professor, Emeritus professor.
Be able to supervise international students at their institution.
Be able to host interns within the stipulated dates of the GRI program: Internships must start between May 1 and July 31 and must be delivered over the course of 12 consecutive weeks. Please note that internships must be conducted in person; virtual or hybrid arrangements are not permitted.
